Whoa There. WTH is Water-based Ink Screen Printing, Anyway?
Water-based screen printing is kinda’ like discharge ink screen printing. It looks like it. It feels like it. But (here’s the important part) it’s more earth-friendly.
Our water-based t shirt printing inks are not toxic, do not contain lead or any heavy metals, nor do they contain any ozone-depleting chemicals (CFC’s, HCFC’s, etc) or volatile solvents.
Water-based screen printing on t shirts with color can be done. But we’re nothing if not honest (you want the best results, after all), so you should know now that water-based printing works best on light colored garments.
Water-based screen printing uses either dyes or pigments in a suspension with water, which acts as the solvent.
When the water evaporates, the ink is cured. The curing part of water-based printing can take place either at room temperature or using a forced-air dryer. Which one we use for your water-based printing projects depends upon the specific water-based ink used and the speed or volume of production.
